This passionfruit mocktail combines fresh passion fruit puree, lime juice and sparkling non-alcoholic wine for a fun, fizzy drink.

Introduction
Guys, there are those days when you just want to lounge on the couch, air conditioner at full blast, and a cool, tall drink in your hand. This drink is for those times.
This passionfruit mocktail, more officially called a passionfruit spritzer, combines tropical passion fruit flavors with tart lime and sparkling wine in a fantastic non-alcoholic beverage that will quench your thirst while making you feel like a thousand bucks. This drink balances tangy sweetness with effervescence, making it perfect for parties or casual sipping on warm days.
On hot summer days this year, after the kids have passed out from playing, I've taken to making two of these passion fruit mocktails and taking them to the terrace for date night with my husband.
And you know something? That feels just as good on a hot day as lounging on the couch with a tall cold passionfruit spritzer.
Difference Between a Spritz and a Spritzer

If you're like me (and most of my friends), you've probably wondered often what is the difference between a spritz and a spritzer. Well, I'm here to unravel this mystery.
A spritz typically refers to an Italian aperitif cocktail made with prosecco, a bitter liqueur, and soda water. A non-alcoholic Aperol Spritz would be the most classic example. A spritzer is a broader term for any drink mixing wine or juice with carbonated water or soda.
Our passion fruit mocktail falls into the spritzer category, combining fruit juices with non-alcoholic sparkling wine.
Ingredients

There are a few ingredients that go into making this passion fruit mocktail recipe:
- Passionfruit purée: The puree from a fresh ripe passion fruit is my go to for this drink, giving it the main tropical, tart and sweet flavor. I also love the texture of the passion fruit seeds. But if you don't have fresh passion fruit, you can use fresh puree, frozen puree, or even a combination of passion fruit syrup.
- Lime juice: Adds acidity and balances the sweetness of the passion fruit purée.
- Simple syrup: Sweetens and helps blend flavors. You can also use agave instead.
- Non-alcoholic sparkling wine: Adds bubbles and complexity
- Ice: Chills the drink
- Passionfruit halves: Garnish for presentation. If you don't have fresh passion fruit, top the drink with fresh mint and a lime curl.
See recipe card for exact quantities.
REAL WINE, DE-ALCOHOLIZED: In this 2-pack you get 2 bottles of each wine: Sparkling Rosé and Brut. Pop the bubbly without headaches or hangovers. This is not just sparkling grape juice or an imitation. Surely's sparkling wines are made with sustainable, locally-sourced grapes in partnership with award-winning winemakers in California.
Directions

Prepare the base mixture

In a cocktail shaker, combine the passionfruit purée, lime juice, and simple syrup. These ingredients form the base of your mocktail, providing the primary flavors and sweetness.
Chill and mixing

Add ice to the shaker. This step is crucial for properly chilling the mixture. Shake the shaker vigorously for 10-15 seconds. This action not only chills the liquid but also ensures all ingredients are well combined.
Strain the mixture

Strain the shaken mixture into two chilled coupe glasses, dividing it evenly. Using chilled glasses helps maintain the drink's temperature. Straining removes any ice or pulp, resulting in a smooth liquid.
Add sparkling wine

Top each glass with half of the chilled sparkling wine. Pour slowly to preserve carbonation. The sparkling wine adds effervescence and volume to the drink.
Final mixing
Gently stir each glass to incorporate the ingredients. This step combines the base mixture with the sparkling wine without losing too much carbonation.
Garnish

Cut a passion fruit in half, and garnish each glass with half of the passionfruit. This adds visual appeal and provides an extra burst of fresh passionfruit flavor.
Serve
Serve the mocktails immediately. This ensures the drink is at its optimal temperature and carbonation level when consumed.
Variations

If you don't have sparkling wine on hand, make this drink with coconut water, sparkling water or lemon-lime soda.
Feel free to sub the lime for other citrus. Orange juice works particularly well here, like in my orange passionfruit mocktail combo.
For a spicy option, add a jalapeño slice or dash of chili powder around the rim of the glass.
Accompanying Dishes
The passionfruit mocktail pairs well with tropical flavors and grilled dishes. The drink's acidity complements the rich or spicy flavors of these pairings, creating a perfect little meal.
I love serving it with grilled salmon skewers that mimic this non-alcoholic drink's fresh lime and tropical flavors. For a plant-based option, accompany the drink with tofu-stuffed mushrooms with sundried tomatoes that riffs off the drink's fresh and bright, and fruity flavors.
These refreshing and light notes of the drink go together wonderfully with the richness of my eggplant and tomato dip.
Top Tip
Whenever you have fresh passionfruit, you can freeze the passionfruit pulp in ice cube trays with water. Then, just use these cubes in your mocktail instead of regular ice!
Mocktail to Cocktail
There are just those days when you may want to add a little bit of alcohol to your drink. To create alcoholic versions of this spritzer, you can use prosecco or champagne instead of non-alcoholic sparkling wine. For something stronger, add 1 oz (30ml) vodka per glass before other ingredients. To make it sweeter, mix in 1 oz (30ml) white rum and use lemon-lime soda.
You always want to taste and adjust sweetness as needed when adding alcohol.
