Ingredients
- Orange Juice – Purely preference here. We love the fresh flavor of freshly squeezed orange juice. Buying already prepared orange juice works perfectly well. Pulp-free orange juice if possible.
- Frozen orange juice concentrate is great for using as well.
- Tangerine Juice – Tangerine, clementine, mandarin.. I would use whichever you can get your hands on. Check below for an explanation of the different types of tangerines you could choose.
- Unable to find tangerines? Use Pineapple juice instead.
- Grapefruit Juice – Once again, try to prepare fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice. The freshness that you get from fresh fruit is so rewarding, and not overly sweet with added sugar and sweeteners.
- Ginger Ale – I’m sure we all have a favorite Ginger Ale. Being from Michigan I have to represent and use Vernors. My husband tells me I’m wrong, but he’s from California so he doesn’t understand my love of Vernors. Either way pick your favorite Ginger Ale.
- Ginger syrup – I use this Ginger infused syrup.
- Ice – Get fancy and try some fun-shaped ice cubes! I sometimes use a silicone ice cube tray
Picking Oranges
Oranges: An orange has a thick skin, is round, and typically has a tart flavor. Smaller than a grapefruit.
Mandarins: Type of orange category that the tangerine, clementine, and satsuma mandarin fall into. Easier to peel with its thin loose skin. They are sweeter and smaller than oranges.
Tangerines: Specific type of mandarin orange. Has skin that is a touch tougher and brighter orange. The taste is less sweet and more tart.
Clementines: The smallest of the mandarin oranges. Has smooth, shiny skin that is easy to peel. typically seedless and super sweet. These are what you would typically see as “cuties” at the grocery store. Very tasty!
Satsuma Mandarins: Another specific type of mandarin oranges. The most delicate of the mandarins, they’re the easiest to peel. Another citrus that is sweet and seedless.
Grapefruit: A grapefruit isn’t technically an orange. It is a citrus hybrid that was accidentally crossed between a sweet orange and a pomelo.
