Fresh blood orange margarita mocktail with lime, non-alcoholic tequila, and a Tajin salt rim. Bright citrus flavor with a bold, cocktail-style finish.

I love nothing more than using freshly squeezed fruits in my mocktails. I made this for a really close friend's birthday once, and safe to say, the guests loved it. She told me that her guests kept asking her what was in the drink and where she got them.
The reason this tastes professional instead of homemade is using fresh blood orange juice instead of regular orange juice, which has a deeper, more complex citrus flavor with natural berry undertones that bottled juice can't replicate. Blood oranges are only in season for a few months, and their flavor is completely different from regular oranges, sweeter with that raspberry-like quality that makes people think you added something exotic. I learned this matters when I tried making this with regular orange juice once when blood oranges weren't available, and it came out tasting flat, nothing like the original that everyone raved about.
The salt and Tajin rim isn't just decorative because the salt enhances the citrus and the Tajin's chile-lime seasoning cuts through the sweetness so it doesn't taste like juice, it tastes like a crafted cocktail. The non-alcoholic tequila adds that herbal, agave complexity that keeps it from tasting like a kids' drink, which is what separates a mocktail from flavored lemonade.
When my friend called me a week after her party, she was laughing because multiple guests had apparently cornered her asking for the drink vendor's contact info because they wanted to hire whoever made those margaritas for their own events. When she told them I'd just made them in her kitchen, they didn't believe her at first. She said one person even asked if I had a catering business they could book.
Now whenever she hosts anything, she specifically requests these because they became the most talked-about thing at her party, I love that something so simple made that big of an impression.
Ingredients

Fresh raspberry blood orange makes this mocktail stand out. It gives deeper color and slightly berry-like sweetness compared to regular oranges. Freshly squeezing it makes a noticeable difference in flavor and gives you about one ounce of juice per fruit. If you can't find raspberry blood oranges, regular blood orange works well, though the flavor will be a little less complex.
Non-alcoholic tequila is key to creating that margarita-style base without alcohol. Clean Co Tequila Alternative works well because it has herbal and agave-style notes that mimic traditional tequila. Seedlip Grove 42 adds extra citrus depth and rounds out the drink so it doesn't rely solely on lime. Together, they build structure instead of just tasting like citrus juice over ice.
The salt and Tajin rim is more than just garnish. Tajin adds mild chili-lime kick that contrasts nicely with the sweet blood orange and tart lime juice. You can adjust the ratio of salt to Tajin depending on how bold you want the rim to be. A dried blood orange slice or lime wedge finishes the drink and gives it a polished look without overpowering the flavor.

How to Make Blood Orange Margarita Mocktail?

This blood orange margarita mocktail comes together quickly and feels polished without being complicated. Fresh juice, a bold rim, and layered citrus flavors make it bright and balanced from the first sip.
Juice the Blood Orange

Use a citrus juicer or squeeze the blood orange by hand until you get about 1 ounce of juice. Set the juice aside. You can use a small amount for rimming the glass and the rest for mixing into the drink.
Prepare the Rim

In a small dish, mix together the salt and Tajin seasoning. Lightly wet the rim of your glass using a little blood orange juice or a lime wedge. Dip the rim into the salt and Tajin mixture, turning the glass gently to coat it evenly.
Build the Drink
Fill the rimmed glass with ice. Pour in the non-alcoholic tequila, Seedlip Grove 42, lime juice, and the remaining blood orange juice.
Stir and Serve

Stir gently to combine all the ingredients. Garnish with a dried blood orange slice or a fresh lime wedge. Serve immediately.
From Mocktail to Cocktail

To turn this blood orange margarita mocktail into a cocktail, you only need to swap the non-alcoholic spirits for traditional ones and slightly adjust the balance.
Replace the 2 ounces of non-alcoholic tequila with 2 ounces of real tequila. Blanco tequila works best because its clean, bright flavor pairs well with lime and blood orange.
Instead of Seedlip Grove 42, use 1 ounce of orange liqueur such as triple sec, Cointreau, or Grand Marnier. This adds sweetness and depth similar to a classic margarita.
Build the drink the same way: rim the glass with salt and Tajin, fill with ice, then add the tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, and fresh blood orange juice. Stir well or shake with ice in a cocktail shaker for a colder, slightly frothy finish.
Taste and adjust if needed. If it feels too strong, add a small splash of simple syrup or a bit more blood orange juice. Garnish as directed and serve immediately.
The Forest is Full of Mocktails

If you enjoy the bold citrus profile of blood orange margarita mocktail, you might also like my sparkling blood orange mocktail. It leans into the same deep citrus notes but adds bubbles for a lighter feel. For something slightly more bitter and complex, non-alcoholic orange spritz mocktail brings in layered orange flavor with a crisp finish that works well for gatherings.
If you prefer a drink with multiple fruit notes, mocktail orange grapefruit punch balances sweet and tart citrus in a way that feels refreshing without being heavy. Non-alcoholic cranberry punch recipe is another good option when you want a deeper color and a brighter edge. Each of these drinks keeps the focus on bold fruit flavor while staying alcohol free.
Top Tips for Blood Orange Margarita Mocktail
Use fresh citrus whenever possible: Fresh blood orange and lime juice make a noticeable difference in brightness and balance compared to bottled juice.
Balance before serving: Taste after stirring. If it feels too tart, add a small splash of simple syrup. If it feels too sweet, add a squeeze of lime.
Chill everything: Cold juice and plenty of ice keep the drink crisp and refreshing. A chilled glass also helps the flavors stay balanced longer.
