Step-by-step Instructions

This grenadine pomegranate recipe is a great addition to your homemade syrups bar. It's simple and rewarding, with just a few ingredients, you can create a rich and flavorful syrup that will enhance your mocktails.
Combine Ingredients

To make grenadine, combine the pomegranate juice and sugar in a medium-sized saucepan to create a flavorful base for your syrup. Use a whisk or a spoon to stir the mixture together until the sugar is evenly distributed throughout the juice. This helps the sugar dissolve properly as the mixture heats up.
Bring to a Boil
Place the saucepan on the stove over medium heat. Gradually increase the heat until the mixture comes to a boil. As it heats, stir frequently to help dissolve the sugar completely and prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan. Keeping an eye on the mixture will help you avoid any burns.
Simmer the Mixture

Once the mixture reaches a rolling boil, reduce the heat to low to bring it to a gentle simmer. Allow it to simmer for about 10 minutes. During this time, continue to stir occasionally. The goal is to reduce the liquid slightly and thicken it to a syrupy consistency. You’ll know it’s ready when it coats the back of a spoon, which indicates that you’ve successfully made grenadine.
Add Flavor

After the mixture has simmered and thickened, remove the saucepan from the heat. If you’re using orange blossom water, now is the time to stir it in. This ingredient adds a unique floral note to your grenadine syrup. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
Cool the Grenadine

Allow the grenadine to cool completely in the saucepan at room temperature. This cooling process is important, as it allows the syrup to thicken further and develop its flavors. Be patient and let it sit until it reaches room temperature.
Storage

Once the grenadine has cooled, transfer it to an airtight container, such as a glass jar or a plastic bottle with a tight-sealing lid. Label the container with the date and store it in the refrigerator. Your homemade grenadine will stay fresh for up to 2 weeks. Unlike store-bought versions that may contain artificial additives, this homemade version is a simple and flavorful addition to mocktails, sodas, or even as a sweetener for beverages and desserts.

Top Tips
Choose quality pomegranate juice: For the best flavor, use 100% pure pomegranate juice without added sugars or preservatives. This will ensure that your homemade grenadine syrup has a rich, authentic taste and vibrant color.
Adjust sweetness to taste: Feel free to adjust the amount of sugar based on your personal preference. If you prefer a less sweet syrup, start with a smaller amount of sugar and taste the mixture as it simmers, adding more if desired.
Experiment with flavors: While orange blossom water is a great addition, consider experimenting with other flavorings such as a splash of lemon juice for tartness or a hint of cherry juice for a different fruit note.

What To Serve With Grenadine Syrup

Grenadine can be added to many desserts such as ice cream, fruit salad, cakes, parfaits, cinnamon rolls, pancakes, and waffles. It's also perfect for my non-alcoholic raspberry mocktail and non-alcoholic mai tai. Sometimes, if I want to switch things up and drink a little booze, I add it to my strawberry white wine spritzer which can be easily converted to a non-alcoholic drink too.
