Blackberry Moscow mule mocktail is a sweet and spicy take on this familiar ginger beer and lime non-alcoholic cocktail.

The blackberry mule mocktail is the perfect non-alcoholic twist on the classic Moscow Mule for cooler weather. This fruity and fizzy drink combines the tartness of blackberries with the spicy kick of ginger beer, making it perfect for when the days get a little shorter and you want to trade the summery mango Moscow mule mocktail for something a bit moodier.
To make a blackberry mule mocktail, we muddle fresh blackberries with mint leaves, then add blackberry syrup, lime juice, and ginger bitters, and top with ice and ginger beer. The result is a vibrant purple drink that's both visually stunning and bursting with flavor. I find that using a copper mug adds an extra touch of authenticity and helps keep the drink ice-cold.
What Is A Moscow Mule?

A Moscow Mule is a vintage cocktail that combines vodka, ginger beer, and lime juice. It's typically served in a copper mug, which helps keep the drink icy cold.
The classic Moscow Mule originated in the 1940s and quickly became popular in the United States. I find its crisp, spicy-sweet flavor profile appealing to many palates.
While the original recipe uses vodka, I've seen variations with different spirits like bourbon or gin.
Ingredients

- Homemade blackberry syrup adds rich, fruity sweetness; it can be substituted with store-bought syrup or blackberry puree mixed with simple syrup. If you want to know if your simple syrup has gone bad, see here or what possible substitutes to use.
- Premium ginger beer - Provides spicy, effervescent base; non-alcoholic ginger ale can be used as a milder alternative.
- Ginger bitters - I used homemade non-alcoholic ginger bitters. Enhances ginger flavor and complexity; these non-alcoholic tropical bitters or orange bitters can substitute if unavailable.
- Freshly squeezed lime juice - Adds brightness and balances sweetness; lemon juice can substitute.
- Fresh mint leaves - Provide a cooling, refreshing aroma and flavor; can omit or replace with basil for a different herbal note.
- Fresh lime wedges - Used as garnish and for extra citrus; lemon wedges can be used as an alternative.

These bitters are amazing! Alcohol and gluten free, they have notes of Passion fruit, ginger and pineapple that I just LOVE.
Directions

Muddle the Mint
In a copper mug, place a handful of fresh mint leaves. Using a muddler, gently press and twist the leaves to release their oils. This step infuses the drink with a fresh mint flavor.
Add the Base Flavors
Pour a measure of blackberry syrup into the mug. Add freshly squeezed lime juice and a few dashes of ginger bitters. These ingredients create the foundation of flavors for the mocktail.
Ice and Ginger Beer
Fill the mug with crushed ice, packing it tightly. This keeps the drink cold. Slowly pour ginger beer over the ice until the mug is almost full. The ginger beer adds spice and bubbles to the mocktail.
Mix
Use a long bar spoon to gently stir the mixture. This combines the flavors without melting too much ice.
Garnish

Add a sprig of fresh mint and a wedge of lime to the drink. This improves both the appearance and the aroma of the mocktail.

From Mocktail To Cocktail

I enjoy the refreshing taste of a blackberry mule mocktail, but some may prefer an alcoholic version. To transform this mocktail into a cocktail, I simply add vodka to the mix. To make it a cocktail, add 1.5 to 2 ounces of vodka per serving. I pour the vodka over ice in a copper mug before adding the other ingredients.
For a twist, you can even use flavored vodkas. Citrus vodka complements the lime, while berry vodka enhances the blackberry flavor. I've found that vanilla vodka adds an interesting depth to the drink.
