The national drink of Puerto Rico turned into an equally delicious non-alcoholic drink. This non-alcoholic pina colada recipe is super easy with 4 simple ingredients, with one being an alcohol-free white rum. Filled with tropical flavors and a sweet light rum, it's the perfect virgin pina colada for those hot summer days.
We've turned this popular drink into a leveled-up virgin version. This tropical treat is a blend of your favorite pina colada flavors in a refreshing drink that won't keep you from being able to drive home. When you drink safely, you drive safely! A true Win-Win.
Inspired by the original recipe for this tropical drink, I've swapped out the rum for a delicious non-alcoholic rum. The Lyre's brand has really nailed its flavors when replicating popular spirits.
I really hope you enjoy this one, whether you're enjoying a tall glass on hot day in the summer, or you're ocean side on a warm beach, or simply trying to bring the flavors of summer to your mid Michigan house in the middle of January. (that last one is me!) This recipe has you covered. Enjoy!
Fun Fact: Did you know that July 10th is Pina Colada Day? I guess I will see you then!
In the meantime, try my other easy mocktail that's filled with more coconut, the Blue Hawaiian. This mocktail would be perfect as a signature mocktail for a gender neutral Baby Shower Party or a Cinco de Mayo gathering!
Ingredients For A Non-Alcoholic Pina Colada
- Lyre's White Rum - There are a few different varieties of alcohol-free white rum; I would choose your favorite. Check out my recommendations below for more white rum brands.
- Cream of Coconut - I chose Coco Goya simply because that's what I could find at my local grocery store, you can use the popular Coco Lopez Cream of Coconut brand, or even the Simply Squeeze brand of coconut cream. You'll find that ready-to-go right in the beverage aisle. Check out their other flavors too!
- Pineapple juice - Dole 100% pineapple juice is best, there isn't any added sugars or fruit juices. Simply fresh pineapple juice.
- Lime juice - There isn't a lot of lime juice to be used, so 2 really juicy limes should do it. If you're making a few batches, getting a bag of limes would be best.
- Ice - No special ice cubes for this one. Simply use what you have in your freezer, or when serving a crowd, opt for a bag of ice.
- Garnishes - A nice thick pineapple wedges for snacking and some pineapple leaves make for pretty garnishes. Even a lime wheel or maraschino cherry makes for great garnishes.

How To Make A Pina Colada Mocktail
- To a blender, add 2 cups of ice, cream of coconut, pineapple juice, lime juice, and Lyre's White Rum.
- Blend until smooth, then pour into a chilled hurricane glass.
- Garnish with a pineapple wedge and a couple of pineapple leaves.
- Serve immediately.
Recipe Swaps & Additions
- Frozen Pineapple Chunks: Swap out half or all of the ice for frozen pineapple. This will create a smoother consistency in the frozen drink. Fresh pineapple chunks can be used as well, but they won't really contribute to the frozen aspect of the drink.
- Coconut Milk: While still imparting a delicious coconut flavor, swap out coconut cream with coconut milk. I have not tried this recipe with coconut milk, so just be aware that the consistency may be altered as milk is thinner than cream. In a pinch, coconut water will also work.
- Adjust The Sweetness: For a sweeter mocktail, adding a little simple syrup can easily increase the sweetness. Maple syrup or agave syrup are also more natural sweetener alternatives.
- No Zero Proof Alternative: Completely omit the NA White Rum if you don't have any. Another great way to still impart some rum flavor is with rum extract or a touch of vanilla extract.
- Optional Garnishes: Pineapple is a given, but you can offer it up in different ways. Top with sweet pineapple chunks or large round pineapple slices. If you want to steer away from bright red maraschino cherries, I enjoy using cocktail cherries, they're darker in color and richer in flavor. They make for a more sophisticated mocktail.
Mocktail to Cocktail
For those in your group who still want their spirit spicy...or with alcohol. Replace the Lyre's White Rum with any of the following:
- Don Q - Often found in a traditional piña colada and from Puerto Rico, it offers light, gold, and dark rum.
- Your favorite White or Coconut Rum.
Drink Responsibly & Enjoy!
Expert Tips To Make The Best Non-Alcoholic Pina Colada
- Chilled Glasses: If you can, place your glasses in the freeze the night before. This will prevent the ice from melting as fast, keeping your blended piña colada chilled and its creamy texture for longer. Chilling the blender and its blade will also help in this.
- Cream of Coconut: If you bought the can like I did, there is a layer of coconut cream on top. Now it sounds kind of like the same thing, but they're not. Below that thick, creamy coconut layer is the "cream of coconut," which is needed for this recipe. It's syrupy and slightly cloudy in color. Don't toss that coconut cream tho! Save it for other recipes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Pina coladas should be served frozen in a few different types of glassware. I used a medium-sized hurricane glass. Another option would be a Poco Grande Glass, typical for a pina colada. Tall glasses like a collins glass or tiki glasses are also used.
You can potentially make more than one mocktail at a time, this depends on how large your blender is. One mocktail uses about 2 cups of ice, so depending on your blender, you could make 2 to 3 drinks at a time. For this recipe, I used a standard-sized Ninja blender with three sets of blades, so it blended very easily and quickly.
