What Is Sunbutter?
Sunbutter is a smooth, nut-free spread made from roasted sunflower seeds. It has a rich, earthy flavor with a hint of natural sweetness and works well as a substitute for peanut or almond butter. Spread it on toast, mix it into oatmeal, or use it in baking to add depth and creaminess without nuts.
It's free from common allergens, making it a staple in many households and schools. It blends easily into smoothies, adds richness to sauces, and pairs well with fruit. Its versatility makes it a great addition to both sweet and savory recipes—even drinks.

Step-by-step Instructions

If you're in the mood for a creamy and nutty drink, this sunbutter latte is a fantastic choice! With its rich flavors and smooth texture, it's perfect for a cozy morning or an afternoon boost. Just follow these straightforward steps to create your own delicious latte!
Prepare the Sunbutter Base

Spoon the smooth Sunbutter into a cup, ensuring it sits at the bottom to blend easily with the milk. Using a creamy, well-stirred Sunbutter will help it mix more smoothly without clumping.
Heat the Milk
Pour oat milk into a saucepan and warm it over medium heat, stirring occasionally to prevent scorching.
Combine and Froth

Pour the heated milk over the Sunbutter, then use a handheld frother to blend until smooth and creamy. The mixture should be well incorporated, with a light froth forming on top.
Strain for a Smooth Texture

Pour the mixture through a fine mesh sieve into another container or directly into your latte cup to remove any sediment.
Add the Espresso

Brew a double shot of espresso using your preferred method, whether it’s an espresso machine, stovetop, or Aeropress, then pour it into your latte cup.
Combine Ingredients
Add the simple syrup and vanilla to the espresso, stirring gently to mix everything together.
Finish the Latte

Finally, pour the Sunbutter milk over the espresso mixture in the latte cup. Fill the cup to your desired level, allowing the layers to mix slightly.
Serve and Enjoy

Your sunbutter latte is now ready to be enjoyed! This drink is perfect for a cozy morning or an afternoon pick-me-up.
Top Tips
Choose the right Sunbutter: When selecting Sunbutter or peanut butter, opt for a smooth variety to make blending with the milk easier. Natural options with minimal added ingredients will give you the best flavor and texture.
Adjust sweetness to taste: The amount of simple syrup can be adjusted based on your personal preference. Consider trying flavored syrups, such as maple or hazelnut, which can pair well with the nutty flavors of the drink.
Experiment with milk alternatives: While oat milk works well, feel free to try other non-dairy milk options like almond milk or cashew milk. Each type will give a slightly different flavor and texture, allowing you to find the one you enjoy most.
Other Drinks For You

If you're looking for other drinks to try, I got the following recipes for you. A cherry vanilla iced latte brings a light, fragrant contrast with the sweetness of cherries and the smoothness of vanilla. A pistachio matcha latte offers an earthy depth, adding a nutty richness that pairs well with the creamy texture of a sunbutter "peanut butter" latte.
A pumpkin spice latte adds a seasonal touch with its blend of spices, while a chocolate martini mocktail brings a smooth chocolate flavor that complements the nutty notes. For a simpler option, the 3-ingredient coffee mocktail has a bold, refreshing kick with minimal effort. Each of these drinks has its own charm, making it easy to find a good match.
What to Serve with Sunbutter Latte

The nutty richness of a sunbutter peanut butter latte pairs well with both sweet and savory foods. A charcuterie board brings a mix of textures and flavors, with crisp crackers, aged cheeses, and dried fruits balancing the latte’s smoothness. For a naturally sweet option, chocolate covered almond butter stuffed dates combine a chewy center with a touch of chocolate, complementing the deep, nutty notes of the drink.
For something cozy, gingerbread loaf casserole or gingerbread oatmeal add warm spice that pairs well with the latte’s nutty base. A slice of pumpkin spice banana bread brings a soft texture with hints of spice, making it a natural match. For a small treat, gingerbread fudge adds a smooth, spiced bite that rounds out the flavors beautifully.
