Treat yourself to a nutty and earthy pistachio matcha latte with pistachio paste, combining vibrant green matcha with creamy pistachio spread for a refined matcha drink ready in 5 minutes (and don't miss out on my iced pistachio matcha latte instructions below).

Some mornings I crave matcha more than coffee. And one morning, while procrastinating on my work thinking some deep productive thoughts, I realized how my usual vibrant green cup of matcha would probably go well with my newly bought pistachio butter.
So to the kitchen I went to test. I warmed up my pistachio butter, made a nice matcha latte, sprinkled crushed pistachios on top and it tied everything together in one pretty green bow.
Each sip has that earthy matcha taste with nutty pistachio notes—and the aftertaste is my favorite part. This latte has completely replaced my Starbucks pistachio latte runs, which has been very good for the bank!
Like my vanilla oat milk latte and sunbather latte, my pistachio and matcha latte takes just 5 minutes, no longer than your usual matcha, making it perfect for weekend mornings or for when friends drop by for coffee.
Ingredients to Make Homemade Pistachio Latte with Pistachio Paste and Matcha Tea

Matcha powder provides a vibrant green color and a unique, earthy flavor, along with various health benefits. Matcha powder is a finely ground green tea made from specially grown and processed tea leaves, known for its earthy flavor and high concentration of antioxidants. I use the same brand matcha powder in my iced raspberry matcha latte with coconut milk.
And the start of the recipe, Pistachio spread, which I love to add to drinks and bake with, like my pistachio hamantaschen and as toppings for my white chocolate bard with pistachios and chocolate covered marshmallow treats!

Directions to Make your Pistachio and Matcha Latte Recipe
Sift the Matcha Powder

Start by sifting the matcha powder into a mug. Sifting helps to break up any clumps in the powder, allowing for a smoother mixture when combined with water. This step is important for achieving a nice, even consistency in your latte.
Add Hot Water and Whisk

Next, pour hot water into the mug with the sifted matcha. Using a whisk, mix the two together until the matcha is fully dissolved and the mixture is smooth. If you have a matcha whisk (chasen), you can use that for a traditional approach, but a regular whisk or even a fork will work as well. Make sure there are no lumps remaining.
Heat the Milk

In a small saucepan, heat your choice of milk over medium heat. Stir occasionally and watch carefully until the milk is steaming but not boiling. Heating the milk to the right temperature is key to achieving a creamy texture without scalding it.
Add Honey to the Matcha Mixture

Once the milk is heated, add honey or your preferred sweetener to the matcha mixture in the mug. Stir well to combine the sweetener with the matcha, ensuring that it is evenly distributed throughout the drink.
Pour in the Heated Milk

Gently pour the heated milk into the mug with the matcha mixture. As you pour, stir lightly to mix the two together. This will help create a uniform flavor throughout the latte.
Warm the Pistachio Spread

To make the pistachio spread easier to incorporate, warm it in the microwave for about 10 seconds. This brief heating will soften the spread, making it easier to swirl into the latte.
Stir in the Pistachio Spread
Add 1-2 tablespoons of the softened pistachio spread into the latte, depending on your sweet tooth. Use a spoon or a small whisk to stir it into the drink, creating a beautiful marbled effect and infusing the nutty flavor throughout.
Top with Remaining Pistachio Spread

For an extra touch, add any remaining pistachio spread on top of the latte, and stir it in. You can either dollop it on or create a swirl pattern for a nice presentation.
Serve Immediately
Serve it immediately while it's still warm. This drink is perfect for a cozy afternoon or as a special treat at any time of the day.

Turn into Iced Pistachio Matcha Latte
The beauty of this matcha and pistachio is that you can enjoy your matcha latte at home hot or iced. Turning it into an iced pistachio matcha latte is easy and perfect for warm days or an afternoon pick-me-up.
Here’s how to make it iced:
- Prepare the matcha base as you normally would: sift the matcha powder into a bowl or glass, add hot water, and whisk until smooth.
- Warm and stir in the pistachio spread so it blends well while still warm, then mix in your sweetener.
- Let the mixture cool slightly (you don’t want to melt your ice too quickly).
- Fill a glass with ice cubes and pour your cooled matcha-pistachio mixture over the ice.
- Add cold milk instead of steaming it. Stir to combine, or layer it for a visual effect.

Top Tips
Quality matcha matters: Use high-quality matcha powder for the best flavor and vibrant color. Look for ceremonial grade matcha if you want a smoother taste and richer green hue. Lower grades can be more bitter and may not blend as well.
Use a milk frother: For a creamier texture, use a milk frother to create a smooth, velvety consistency. You can also adjust the milk texture to your preference by frothing it more or less, depending on how rich you want your latte to feel.
Experiment with milk options: You can use any type of milk for this latte, whether it's dairy milk or plant-based milk. Almond milk, oat milk, or coconut milk can add different flavors and creaminess. I'v even make it with pistachio milk (or pistachio cream) - try that when you want to double down on pistachio flavor.
More Latte and Tea Recipes
For another unique, yet delicious, homemade latte, I would be remiss if I don't mention my cardamom rose latte and pumpkin spice latte with pumpkin spice simple syrup.
For a cozy option, try a toasted almond mocktail alongside a pumpkin spice bar, or a pumpkin pie martini mocktail for a spiced contrast. A 3-ingredient coffee mocktail provides a bitter balance, enhancing the matcha's green notes.
