A perfect warm treat for St. Patrick’s Day. This non-alcoholic Irish coffee is full of that warm, boozy flavor without the alcohol. Pile on the whipped cream and shaved chocolate bites, you're going to LOVE this non-alcoholic version!

Is this "technically" Irish Coffee? Well, no. For a whiskey to be labeled an Irish whiskey, it needs to be distilled in Ireland. Lyre's offers its Highland Malt, which is a true-to-taste blend that is so similar to a single malt whiskey. In the world of whiskey alternatives, Lyre's products are Top-Tier! Perfect to dip mini croissants into the coffee and relaxing.
Did you know!: According to one account, the Irish coffee was created at a flying boat terminal. Introduced in America in 1952 and was served at the buena vista cafe in San Fransisco.

Alcohol-Free Irish Coffee Ingredients
- Lyre's Whiskey—Traditional reserve or Highland malt (pictured here) are the same thing. Lyre's rebranded this particular item. The traditional reserve is the newer of the two.
- Brown Sugar - Brown sugar adds a sweet and nutty flavor that complements the whiskey and coffee.
- Hot coffee - Brew your favorite coffee and use that to top your delicious drink.
- Whipped cream or Whipped heavy whipping cream - For ease, use whipped cream from a can or a nice dollop from a tub of Cool Whip. On the other hand, whipping up your own cream allows you to create the amount of 'whip' that you like.
- Optional - If using a whiskey alternative isn't an option for you, replace that ingredient with rum extract. This will impart a similar flavor.

How To Make A Non-Alcoholic Irish Whiskey
- To a glass mug, add the whiskey and brown sugar.
- Fill the rest of the way with hot, freshly brewed coffee.
- Top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.

Recipe Variations & Ways To Serve
Different creamy alternatives - There are so many different coffee creams, oat milks, flavors, and the like. Using a hazelnut or a brown sugar oat milk cream is my go-to, but using a non-alcoholic Irish cream for coffee would be perfect for this one!
Make it an iced coffee! - Who doesn't like a yummy iced coffee. Instead of brewing a fresh pot, use your favorite cold brew coffee, or just some leftover cold coffee from this morning. For a chilled drink, I recommend shaking with some ice cubes to chill and mix all of the ingredients. This will help the brown sugar to disolve. Pour into your glass then add whipped cream on top of the coffee.
Whip it up! - If you're opting to make your own whipped topping, then blend, whisk, or froth it up until it's thick but still slightly pourable. So it sits nicely on top, pour gently over the back of a spoon.
Fun Toppings - I love to top an Irish coffee mocktail with chocolate shavings. Over time, they slowly melt into the coffee. Yum! You can dust it with cocoa powder, add a cherry, or sprinkle it with green matcha powder for a festive St. Patrick's Day mocktail.
Decaf Irish Coffee Mocktail - If caffeine is a worry, use a decaf or half-caf coffee instead.
For a sweeter mocktail - You can adjust the brown sugar to your level of desired sweetness. Keep in mind that if you use a flavored cream for the topping, that will include some sugar as well.

Mocktail to Classic Cocktail
As I said above, to create classic Irish coffees, you'll need a good Irish whiskey.
- Simply swap out the Lyre's whiskey for your favorite Irish Whiskey.

During family Thanksgiving, one of my favorite combos to serve alongside a cup of Virgin Irish Coffee are these delicious Puff Pastry Pumpkin Pockets with Caramelized Onions and Baked Butternut Squash Chips. Made with seasonal ingredients, they are easy to make and customizable to serve all the guest's dietary restrictions. Irish coffee is also the perfect addition to this spooky yet elegant Halloween Charcuterie Board. You have cheese, crackers, smoked meats, fruits, and more.
